Don't take advice from people who don't even know how to spell castor oil, much less how to use it.

Labor can only be triggered by the baby's development or artificial hormones administered in a hospital setting.

You cannot walk yourself into labor, or eat spicy foods or pineapple, or be sent into labor through sex or driving down a bumpy road or doing jumping jacks. The only thing castor oil is successful in inducing is GI upset and possibly life-threatening complications for both you and the baby.

You have four weeks before you're even overdue. Wanting a child out before a certain date is not a valid reason for early induction, nor is it an excuse to risk the baby's health.

  • Nope not a thing you can do.

I've done a ton of research on this and until the baby's brain is ready its not going to happen no matter how hard you try and force this!

Its a 2 fold process -- researchers discovered a pea-sized region of the fetal brain called the paraventricular nucleus, which actually serves as a biosensor designed to trigger the events leading to a birth. Two hormones, corticol and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), reach peak levels in the fetal bloodstream just before birth. Peter W. Nathaniels of Cornell University suggests that the "fetal brain acts as a tiny monitor, tracking its own development." When the baby is ready for birth, the paraventricular nucleus signals the fetal pituitary gland to increase ACTH secretion. The pituitary, in turn, tells the fetal adrenal gland to secrete more cortisol. These hormonal increases cause changes in the mother's hormones, including the release of oxytocin, which lead to uterine contractions

Well, you're baby is the one who signals labor to begin. He releases hormones when his lungs are mature enough to breathe air, which starts your body producing enough hormones to get labor started. So until labor starts you shouldn't try to start it yourself. That being said, if you're having some labor symptoms and want to kick it up a notch there are some things you can do:

Walk. Not to exhaustion, but take long walks.

Drink raspberry leaf tea. Not raspberry flavored tea, make sure it's made from the leaves.

Bounce on an exercise/labor ball with your legs spread apart. This will open your hips and pelvis, allowing the baby to slide and lock into place.

Do stair steps 2 at a time. This does the same as bouncing.

    Have sex.
