Ever thought about keeping your religious input to yourself?

Why do many Christians feel the need to tell you that you're a bad person or what you're doing is wrong because their "god" says so? Example:

Insurance agent asked me about my occupation and upon hearing that I'm a dancer told me that I need to "pray for forgiveness and think about my actions."

Told I'm going to hell because of my tattoos and because I live with my boyfriend and we're not married by STRANGERS.

Not to mention all the laws and bans they want to burden us with because of their beliefs.

How can we get it through to these people that we don't want to hear it or we would go to church?

Without being able to hear these people speak to you and observe their ways / mannerisms, I can't make a judgment.

But these folks would probably fall into 2 types:

    1) Those genuinely concerned for your eternal soul

    2) Those who just want to feel superior to you

As a believer I apologize for the latter type. However . . .

I urge you not to take your eternal destiny lightly.

What you do in this life about accepting / rejecting the substitutionary death and resurrection of Jesus Christ determines your dwelling place in eternity.

You won't be able to change your mind or your station at that point.

Would you reject someone grabbing your arm as you were about to step out in front of a moving bus?? What if in the moment he/she even shoved you!? The person would have been acting desperately and not been worried about you getting a few scratches or mussing your hair.

Hopefully you will encounter more folks who have a genuine love for your soul in the future.

If sharing my religious beliefs based strictly on God's word the bible can help even one person to learn, and love God and survive the end of this world it is worth sharing each and every time.

    Have a good day.

It WAS inappropriate for an insurance agent to give you a lecture about your choice of occupation. I suggest that maybe you should have pulled the plug on doing business with that agency if you felt offended by it! As for other Christians imposing their beliefs upon you -- maybe you should sit down and write down a really simple statement that you will use to let those who impose their judgment upon you that they need to stop! You seem to feel emotionally raw and undone by this - so the best defense is a good offense in this case! Try to put together a sentence that is clear and concise - it doesn't have to be 'mean' or argumentative. Once you've learned to impose your little, memorized sentence as soon as someone begins to cross certain boundaries, you will feel relief from this.

Source(s): I AM a Christian, but I don't think anyone can 'save' someone else by chastising them! I don't 'tell' anyone anything about Christianity, I just try to BE a Christian by living by the Golden Rule. I find comfort in believing that there IS a God; I want to believe that there is something more than the world we live in. But that's MY belief. The God I believe in doesn't need me to be a Judge! I just pray for others...

I am a Christian, pray and read the Bible daily and go to Church every Sunday morning. But I don't talk about it to people I don't know outside of Church or others that I know don't care about it.

You simply tell people that your beliefs are your business and not theirs. Refuse to engage people in their discussions of religion--by walking away, flat out telling them to stop or re-directing the conversation to another topic. You can only be drawn into discussions if you REPLY and if you ANSWER these people. Stony silence can often cause the conversation to come to a halt. Practice that. If it doesn't work, practice telling these people that you have no intention of discussing anything that has to do with religion. You are the one that has to put a stop to this.

The bible teaches me that I should get the log out of my eye before I help you get the splinter out of yours. Then I can see clearly to help you. When I am perfected in Jesus, then I will have the ability to help you in love. The bible also teaches me that I should not judge others. God loves all of us, and each of us are unique. He knew us when we were formed in our mothers womb and loved us. Jesus, Gods son came to earth to die for our sins, so that God would look at us and see His perfect, sinless son. All we have to do is accept what Jesus did for us at the cross and accept His salvation. He made it so easy. Just believe!

All I know is, I don't want to hear any more of your annoying preaching and dogmatic statements on religion.

'GOD'' is nothing more than the externalization of a person's ego....Isn't it weird that a person's god has exactly the same likes and dislikes and the same enemies as that person...food for thought..
