If a belief makes you feel good, then do you think that gets you closer to what's true?
E.g. "I feel so good right now and I am attributing this feeling to God! God must be real! This invisible and immaterial entity is imposing this feeling onto my soul even though I have no good reason to think a soul exists and it's definitely not my brain making me feel this way."

No. It depends on various other factors, which you have to thoroughly verify, observe or investigate. Please have some self-analysis and probe everything including your previous thoughts, present thoughts, ideas, feelings, etc.. Besides you should know about your habits and behaviors and its repercussions on your physical health or mental health. If you feel that you are possessed, then consult a exorcist, sorcerer, faith-healer or witch-craft. They will tell you the main reason for your present sufferings

How you feel is not related in any way to what is true. A personal example, I'm afraid of heights and my "feelings" are all over the place when I drive over a major bridge. This does not mean that the bridge does not exist or that it is "wrong", it just means that my feelings are a very subjective view of reality.
What you are really trying to ask is "how can we know what is true", which is a very good question.

Believing in a powerful being that protects you can make you feel all fuzzy inside, but it doesn't make it true. But people are too stupid to realize that. They are all like: "Oh im feeling so good today. It must be God smiling on me, because thats what my parents taught me." And because they think God is making them feel good, than they start to love him and forever live a life based on him and religion and ignoring logic. People are that gullible, I know its hard to believe but there are all types of people out there, most of them very ignorant.

Yes and no, you have to use some intellect. For example, a belief that opiates will make you feel good could cost you your life, in which case, that would be bad.
Our feelings are only half of our intelligence. A purely analytic mind is just as flawed as one that reacts only to emotion.

I believe every time I donate to the Red Cross, a puppy angel gets its wings and poops on my neighbor's lawn. So, I donate to the Red Cross frequently.
I am not sure what truth the false belief got me closer to even though it inspired me to do something good and made me feel good.
Source(s): Don't worry, they are angel puppy poops. They are actually good for the grass. - Anonymous7 years ago
No, of course not. I feel good when I get drunk. Does that bring me to any sort of "truth"? Nope.
No amount of belief makes something a fact.

God made the brain feel that way. You don't realize his works.
