Always wanted to own my own pub, do they make a lot?

I've been brought up around pubs. Both of my parents sing and do gigs and from a young age ive been going along with them, and getting up and doing a few songs myself :) Although a lot of people may disagree and think that allowing young children to go to the pub is bad, from my personal experience it never was. If anything its helped me when it comes to meeting new peeople!

So, ive always wanted to own my pub one day. But i've never really known how much pub owners make. I was under the impression it wasnt a lot.. But i've seen a few pubs and the owners look like theyre flying high!

Does anybody know the medium average of how much a pub owner would make? And how I may be able to go about owning my own pub one day?

Thanks

Owning one is not to be taken lightly. It is hard work, and profits are small. If you do go for it, do not go for a tenancy, you would only be able to sell certain beers. And being tied to a brewery wold mean you have to buy at th prices the brewery tell you. Also sell at the price they fix. Many pubs are going out of business , because of the margins.

Pubs are going out of business at a the rate of 18 a week

It's hard work with long hours

Licensees are only high if they are drunk - a common problem.

Be a pub owner, but avoid being a tenant

Before owning a pub get experience behind the bar.

About 20 pubs a week are closing, so lots of publicans are making a loss.

Hundreds of pubs go out of business each year because they're losing money.

A well run pub in a good location is a licence to print money.

    It depends what you have.

You get out of it what you put into it. You have the option to own a run of the mill pub or a place that people love to gather at and have a good time. People can go anywhere to have a few drinks. Make your place a destination instead of a stopover.

If you run the pub good.. Yes, you can make a lot of money... But if your pub isn't that good then you can lose more than make any because you have to pay the rent of course for the pub ..

In the UK over 25 pubs a week close down - businesses that make money do not close down

Bear in mind that visiting a good pub is fun. Running one is hard work.

In America, they do, once established. But they also have and create problems.
