What is the charge on the fur?

A piece of fur is vigorously rubbed with a metal bar. When separated, the net charge of the fur is...

a) positive

b) negative

c) neutral

d) you can't tell

Can someone explain their answer? Please help, thank you.

    Unless you knew something of the properties of the fur and the rod you have no idea of which charge might be produced.

    If you are holding the metal then it is being earthed by you. As a result the rod could not gain charge like that. The fur still might gain a charge however.
