Parents: What would you think to a male primary school teacher?
Me and my friend (both male) really want to be primary school teachers we're going to the same sixth form and maybe the same university, but I want to know what parents think to them. My work experience was in primary school and I loved it! Also my cousin is nearly finished in university studying primary education.

No different to a female one,my children have all at some stage been taught by male teachers and i have never had any issues with it nor do i see any reason as to why i should have, they were excellent teachers who did well to encourage my children in their education and that is all that matters to me.
I was also taught by a male teacher in my last year of primary school which was 26 years ago now and no one felt there was anything wrong with it then either,he was also an excellent teacher and again that was the important factor.

As an experienced primary school teacher AND a parent am I qualified to chime in on this.....?
I hope so....
Generally speaking parents respond very positively to male primary and early years teachers HOWEVER parents ALWAYS respond positively (unless they have issues around institutions/establishments) to GREAT teachers whatever gender they are! And also they respond negatively to poor teachers REGARDLESS of their gender.
These days male primary school teachers are so common that the gender alone is not an issue all that matters is the quality of your teaching and your class' learning, progress and enjoyment. If the class are happy and learning then parents will love you.

I assume primary is the equivalent of elementary in the US?
I see no issue. There were a few male teachers in my elementary school. My only warning is that it's not as common so be prepared to be the odd one out.

Well I'm not a parent, but I've never met a single person that doesn't approve of male teachers, that's juts ridiculous. What are we, living in the middle ages? I don't think anyone will care what sex you are, if they do, they're just sexist a**holes.
