Should America split up?
Has the US come to the point where it should split up like the USSR did? There is so much disunity in this country that we can no longer operate as a functioning country. You have black vs. white, rich vs. poor, Republican vs. Democrat, producers vs. leaches. Why not just split the country into 3 or 4 Sociopolitical "states" and people can go to what part they want to be part of a more homogeneous society that can actually get things done. And when one of the states fail then the others have no responsibility to bail them out.
Would that even be viable? I just got the idea reading about the split between the Eastern and Western Roman empires.

No. We should just quit electing politicians who don't believe in unity and who deliberately divide and create hate rhetoric against those who didn't vote for them.
Harry Reid's latest outburst on the Senate floor (where anything said cannot be subject to lawsuit) regarding the Koch brothers is a prime example of our lack of leadership and increased hatred for some Americans. He doesn't deal in facts, but only emotion - just like Obama.
It's almost as if they want another Civil War.

We tried that once. It was called the Civil War. Didn't work too well. America does not have a homogeneous society. Within most states are very diverse groups of people. If you read some history, instead of just spouting off, you'll see that there have always been divisions in this country. Splitting up is not a solution, but I guess it's easier than trying to work together. BTW, seeing people as "leeches" (and that's how you spell that) doesn't really help.
Edit: @John, I'd LOVE to do that. I guess you're a millionaire, so you'll do swell in a Republican-controlled state. Good luck keeping the peasants from starting a revolution, though.
@Di, I could say the same thing about John Boehner. Do you realize that this Republican-controlled Congress has done less than any other Congress in our history? But oh, they have time to vote to repeal Obamacare something like 40 times. What does THAT accomplish?

Comparing the USA to the USSR is a mistake. States were not forced into a union with the US, they applied for inclusion. In the USSR, independent states were swallowed up without the consent of the inhabitants in most cases. I don't know what exactly would be accomplished by splitting up the USA. States would still have to do business with each other. There are state governments that control much of the business within each state and between states. The federal government certainly has some control over citizens of states and interstate business practices. But if the federal government was abandoned, some other rules would have to apply. Besides, Americans are no more divided today than at other times in US history from what I read.

I do quite like your idea, and as a Canadian I've thought it makes sense myself. I think that there will always be rich and poor people in any country, and we shouldn't segregate people by race. However I think there is such a strong disconnect between the Democrats and Republicans. It's existed ever since the civil war essentially and persists till today in the forms of economic and social policy. So yes perhaps two divisions would be helpful in my opinion, but I doubt it would happen since that would be such a dramatic change that no US government could ever completely agree on it, and I think the republican states know they wouldn't survive without the democrat ones.

When groups split up it isn't long before infighting starts among each individual group. Infighting never seems to end.

Sounds good to me. Give the Republicans one half and the Democrats the other and see how the Democrats do without all of our help. I'm Republican and I'll take whatever half they want us to, North, South, East, or West!

I thought Obama was going to unite the country.

The "disunity" you sense is in large measure because a divisive, anti-American community organizer was elected by morons seeking free sh!t from the government. Get rid of obama, and a lot of the "disunity" will disappear.

This is what Obama has created. 2016 will be the start of a new America! No Hillary.
