On a college application essay, should I write I've or I have?

I'm applying for college and part of the application is an essay of 300 words or more basically on why I want to go to college. I was just wondering if it matters if I say I've or I have.

I have would be more appropriate.

Use the most formal language, which would mean I have. Some contractions are appropriate, but it depends on the use. The best rule is to stay as formal as possible in a college admission essay.

I have, its proper English and therefore the appropriate wording for an essay such as this.
