car insurance uk have they change the rules.?

so I have heard that if you get new car insurance you now have to show them your driving licence. now if this is a new ruling is right will those with insurance on going have to show their licence also.

don't get the wrong idea I have a licence, sadly no car but I have always thought this was always a good idea to stop people who have no right to drive from getting insurance. which at the end of the day wouldn't pay out if they had an accident, it just keeps the police from stopping them.

Update:

yes bazza I realise that the licence number would be submitted but are the insurance legally bound now to ask for this information by a new law. they have never asked before for your licence number as proof you are qualified to drive.

No only some insurance providers ask for a copy of both licence and green counterpart.

My previous bike insurance asked for this but not any other company.

No rules have changed but more like optional for providers.

I think they just want to check the facts are correct from a business point of view - licence held, no points as you claim.

I doubt if they need to view your licence. Quoting the licence number would usually be sufficient as they can refer to the DVLA to confirm if they wish.
