Why are (most) Christians terrible at spelling online?

I find it odd, and quite disturbing, that so many Christians' online forum spelling, grammar, punctuation, and overall English composition is so atrocious. It's as if they think writing correctly is a sin! Now, I emphasize the word "most" because I'm a Christian, and I take pride in my ability to express myself in written English.

Anyway, this disturbs me. I can't find a single forum or YouTube comment thread on any spiritual topic without my eyes bleeding from all the English language abominations. Can someone please shed some light on this? Oh, and please don't answer with some sort of "Christians are stupid" response. I will report it, so don't waste your time or mine. Thanks!

Update:

Árni, I believe you meant TOO many hours, as opposed to "To many hours". Congratulations. Oh, and I'm flagging your response.

Update 2:

TKH, thank you for pointing that out. :( I always strive to improve.

Update 3:

Bulky_Bob, very good point. In fact, I believe the Westboro Baptists are doing just that. Posing as Christians to make the real ones look bad.

Andrew, you said a key word here.

Pride, you take pride in your ability to express yourself in English.

Hmm, do you know the verse in the Old Testament concerning pride going before destruction?

You concern yourself with something that is trivial considering the dire state this world is in.

Souls are being lost and going to hell and all you can think about is proper Grammer, Ohh Good grief, you have got to be kidding me!

People using texting language all the time with abbreviated words and acronyms with their thumbs and while driving, Killing people because they are not paying attention to the road, and you are all up in arms about Spelling? seriously?

Only Christians can answer this. Most non Christians don't have the understanding of Jesus. Jesus many times spoke of the first being last, and the last being first, as well as how hard it was for the rich to enter heaven. Why? Because God is the God of the poor and weak, not powerful. The powerful don't feel they need him, while the meek and poor in spirit cling to him.

So, even though you would take pride in your ability to correctly spell, it doesn't matter to God. In fact, insulting those that don't is misunderstanding the priority of God.

Being able to express oneself with proper spelling and grammar is no longer considered "important". With the technology that is included in Yahoo, I wonder if some thinke the red line under a word is there to make it stand out out. (think misspelled on purpose in the last sentence)

With many now devolving into "texting" with short cuts for words, and no grammar rules, they are using what "language" skills that comes from it.

I try my best to make understandable the message when I give an answer. It may be a generational thing, valuing the form as well as the message. (I do have a problem with run-on sentences, since we don't "think" with punctuation marks in our brains.)

    Seriously?

We are moments away from Armageddon, and you want to have a Christian spelling bee?

    **edit**

I once spoke to a group of High School students, where I compared what they were being taught to what the Word of God had to say. After they decided that it made sense to them, they requested that I "rip English". To which I replied that English comes pre-ripped. With people like George Carlin, and Gallagher doing such a great job pointing out the atrocities of the English language, all I could do is offer excuses as to how it got that way.

The language changes on a daily basis, to the point that when you say someone is hot, and I say someone is cool, it means the exact same thing, and neither has anything to do with temperature.

Fix the language before attempting to fix the way it is used.

It is the same on lots of sites, look at FB. I think some of the problem may be what electronic device a person is using. It is much easier to post from a desktop or laptop than it is from my phone or Ipod, when the keypad is that small there is going to be an error. I think people know they are using the wrong word but when it pops up on auto-correct it is easy to accept it and go on.

Source(s): Unfortunately people did exactly what you asked them not to do, check out the Christians are uneducated answers. Always.

Maybe it has more to do with the age. It seems like there are a lot more young Christians than young atheists (a lot of the atheists I've met online appear to be adults), and younger people are notoriously terrible with grammar online.

I find it odd that anyone spells anything wrong, anymore. I mean, almost every browser has a spell checker built into it. I get putting commas in the wrong place, or maybe choosing the wrong spelling. But straight up misspells blow my mind.

States with higher religiosity tend to be less educated and have lower IQ than states with less religiosity on average. There is clearly a correlation although it's hard to link causation... IMO high levels of religiosity is probably not the cause but simply a symptom of lower intelligence and lower education, hence Christians are grammatically handicapped.
