Abs still sore over a week after situps?

I just started working out. On feb 28 I did 100 pushups in sets of 20. Stupidly, I used the torso rotation and crunch machine at the gym two days in a row after that, 75 reps per machine in sets of 25. The thing is my abs are only sore when I stretch or arch my torso- when I do that, it feels like an intense burn like you feel when you're working out. If I'm just sitting or walking normally it isn't sore at all. Is that normal?

Update:

So I'd be better off doing fewer reps with more weight, then?

Sounds like you really pushed it a bit. You will get over it. Of course it could be some repetitive strain injury as well as muscle strain.

It's normal when you seriously over worked your abs.

You probably over did it enough that you caused inflammation in the fibrous tissue of your core.

I wouldn't push it like that again.

Abs shouldn't be worked any more often than other muscle groups. It needs recovery too. I would stick to every 3rd day if you are doing a hard ab routine.

I would also back off on the reps. I don't see much of a need to do excessive reps for one exercise. I would do much more than about 30 reps per exercise. Past that I really see no point. You are better off making the exercise harder if you can do more than that. You stand to gain more.
