What is the mass of the rock?

A rock is tied to a spring scale and lowered into water in a graduated cylinder so that the rock is submerged and the spring scale reads 0.80 N. Then the rock goes under the water, the water level in the cylinder rises from the 35 mL mark to the 45 mL mark. What is the rock's mass?

    The rock's volume is 10cc (ml, but ml is a liquid measure).

    (0.8/g) = 0.8/9.8 = 0.081632653 kg., = 81.633 grams.

    Density = (81.633/10) = 8.1633g/cc. You make it 8.16g/cc.

    If you use other than 9.8 as g, you would need to rework using that figure. The question suggests to me you might use 10 as g.
