becoming Catholic......some questions?
So my husband and I had a wedding ceremony at the courthouse. So not married in a church , but i want to know why its a big belief that one should get married in a church.
He grew up Catholic but never really went to church once he was a teen. I grew up going to a Christian church and I hated it. I want to learn more about Catholic teachings but i cant go to church since no car is available. How can I learn about the beliefs?
Also what is a first communion?
Thanx for answering

Because Matrimony is one of the 7 sacraments, as you should know. It needs to be blessed by the Church.
The Church doesn't administer the sacrament of Matrimony; the couple does. The priest is there as a witness for the Church.

1st communion is the 2nd of 7 holy Catholic Sacraments. By the time you are dying, a good Catholic should have completed 5-6 of the 7 sacraments.
No one can attain every sacrament as marriage and holy orders are both sacraments and you can't do both.

<<Becoming Catholic......some <snip> get married in a church.>>
The answer should be obvious. . . . Matrimony is Holy Sacrament; to be administered by the Church, not a mere legal proceeding to be administered by some court.

there are some good catholic websites to ponder over . salvation history is one .a catholic marriage is being one with God .
first communion is your first time to receive the body and blood of Christ , this is after entering into the catholic faith . your husband already baptized would need to go to confession before he can partake in the communion any more. work on him to help you . go well

Read the online Cathecism of the Catholic Church: http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc/index.htm
Or attend a RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. a participant may give you a ride.

Call a catholic priest to discuss your matter.

The best way one can become a Catholic is by enrolling into a RCIA class and by letting the Priest who cares for the body in his parish guide you both through the process to the first communion which is the acceptance of Jesus Christ as your lord and savior.

It is a choice. Since marriage is God's institution and two people who choose each other for a lifetime, their coming together in a barn, is valid before God, with the presence of two or three witnesses. The only hindrance to this completion, is the non consummation of this union. People choose the church as a symbol or tradition of the presence of God who happens to be in the court too. It is a matter of choice and does not change the legality or vow in the sight to God and man. People choose the church for it is supposed to be sacred and holy meeting place of worshipers, who are actually sinners going to the gas station, for repentance and renewal weekly.

Find a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It should answer any questions you have.

When people get married, they usually want their family there. Most people especially want their parents and the ones they love the most to be there. Those who feel close to God want him to be present. Marriage is one of the important sacraments.
