Isn't not voting the best way to demonstrate that you don't rely on government?

Update:

Is complaining really all that productive? Of course not. If you don't vote, I agree, you shouldn't complain. That's the point, though. Life is so damn good it doesn't matter who is in office; you'll be just fine.

Update 2:

So, pretty much the only reasons to vote are to

A. Complain in the future when you lose

B. Gloat when you win

C. Make sure that people who you believe are less capable than you get some kind of help from the government

D. Ensure that a politician will care about you if he or she wins

That's pretty f#cking silly.

Trouble is... If you don't vote and you get an administration that forces itself on you (like we have now), then that "damn good" self-reliant life you love could be flushed down the crapper.

You get what you vote for....or don't vote for at all.

It was this attitude that kept many Tea Party people home in 2012 and put Obama back into the White House. Feeling was both candidates sucked so why bother.

I guess it really did matter.

    wrong

because people do not vote they have no say in government

    think about it dummy

the people in Government want to get re elected so they suck up to the voting public doing whatever it takes to keep the majority of voters happy enough to elect them next time around

those that don't vote are ignored because they probably are not going to vote next time which means keeping them happy does nothing to further the politician's career

and even more important when you do not Vote it allows everybody else IE all those morons you have zero respect for to decide who will run the country

in the Last Federal election in Canada more people decided not to vote than those that voted for any 1 party

    translation

if the non voters had all supported the Green Party [ that now has 1 seat in Parliament ]

then the Green Party would have a majority government in Canada

in government you get what you vote for

Voting is important because politicians do not care what people who do not vote want. Everyone relies on the on government to fix the potholes on the streets they drive on and pick up the garbage to keep cities clean etc.

The catch is that this approach generally doesn't have any effect on the government- you might have made some kind of point, but it doesn't affect who wins the election, and basically the government doesn't care about people who don't do this, as they don't influence who forms the government.

not voting and voting for a socialist like Obama has been the worst thing people can do

people need to wise up and stop voting for who is cool, look at what this has got them

more people on welfare than ever before, more people unemployed, national debt, apologizing to terrorists, scandal after scandal, every thought from Obama has been to destroy america

Not voting is the best way of saying you don't care who runs your country or how.

Nope, it's the best way to get the people that think like you do in office though.
