Question about weed butter?
Okay so I'm looking at recipes for weed butter online and every one I saw the butter was measured in "sticks". Where I live, butter comes in blocks of either a pound or half a pound. How much does a "stick" of butter weigh, and what is a good weed-butter ratio for actual bud (not shake or trim)?

As RoyS said one stick is 1/4 lb. It is really hard to say how many grams to use for a stick of butter. It really depends on how potent the bud is and how potent you want you butter to be. If you are talking about schwag, the cheap Mexican weed with seeds, you will want to use probably a half ounce. If you are talking about some good seedless buds then you use much less. A good way to take a stab at this is to take how much you would normally smoke in a day if you smoke all day long and multiple the by the number of doses you plan to make, so lets say you are going to make 15 cookies multiple how much you would smoke in a day if you smoked all day long and multiple that by 15 then cook that amount of bud into the butter.
The easiest and tastiest way I have found to make canabutter is to grind the bud up really fine then put the butter in an oven safe dish with some water. You turn the over on about 250F and cook the water and bud and butter for a few hours in the over stirring every half hour or so. Add more water as needed. Then after it has been in the over a few hours take it out and let it cool down. Once it is cool strain out the bud and put the butter in a bowl. Then take the bud and put it cheese cloth and squeeze out every bit of butter you can.
Once you have squeezed out every bit of butter throw away the bud the THC is out of there it is now worthless pulp. If all of the water is not cooked out of the butter put the butter in the fridge and let the water and separate. Once the butter hardens you just pour the water down the sink and you have your canabutter.
1 stick of butter equals 1/2 cup of butter. When you have the canabutter separated from the bud and water measure how much you actually have left as so of the water in the butter will have cooked away, and add as much as may be needed for you recipe. It is a good idea to cook your cookies at a lower temperature for a longer time than the recipe calls for so you do not vaporize the THC in the over. I find you can bake chocolate chip cookies at 300 degrees and then turn out great if you just bake them a little longer.
Adding the water to the butter makes it so you do not really taste the bud in your recipe, it just tastes like your recipe. Be sure to cook the butter and marijuana long enough that the butter absorbs all of the THC and that the mariuana is decarboxylated (the THCA is turned into orally active THC).
