Athiests, why do you ask questions attacking Christianity when you yourself have not formed a factual opinion?
If you're going to question Christianity and Christian beliefs, it would help your arguments if you were actually informed about what you are trying to start an argument about. So why not do your homework before challenging?
Just to be clear, I'm not asking in an attacking way, I really am curious as to why you would go forward without all the facts.
Why not study the original Greek and Hebrew works of the original manuscripts before asking why we believe what we believe based on one mistranslated verse from one version of the bible?

I can't speak for the atheists (note the spelling) whom you're addressing, as I haven't even posted a question yet in my short time on Y!A. However, I can say that I don't recall seeing a Christian offering the sort of correction you imply (tho perhaps my memory fails me). Could it be because the Christians are just as ignorant, or even more so? Wouldn't it behoove them to educate themselves enough to promptly dispose of such questions? Now, I think learning Greek and Hebrew is a bit much, but studying an interlinear Bible might be a good idea. (BTW, are you aware that we have no “original manuscripts”?)
When I “attack” Christianity, I go after the basic beliefs, which are well known (and utterly irrational). Virtually no knowledge of the Bible is required. (Yet, I apparently know much about the Bible that most Christians don't.) I also reply to “arguments” that Christians put forth, which are generally pathetic.
Matthew T, almost everything you said is false. The burden of proof is not a “technique”, and atheists didn't come up with the idea. Most self-described atheists don't consider atheism “true”, because to them it isn't a belief, claim, or proposition of any sort, and is therefore neither true nor false. They don't “set the level of proof required” (for the theists' claims) or “do the judging according to whatever standard pleases them”--rather, they simply insist on actual evidence, and most seem to have a good understanding of what constitutes evidence and what doesn't. Anyway, who else should “set” these standards? The religionists? Anyone see a problem with that? You are right about one thing: "God doesn't meet the burden of proof"--or, rather, the theists don't. That's their problem, not the atheists'.

Im agnostic but I very much enjoy asking questions I know that Christians cant and wont answer. Why? Because they push thier beliefs on others and it makes me mad. If there is a god, it is not the God of christianity. If Jesus actually existed and was Son of God and done what was claimed then thats awesome but the matter is did he actually exist? Maybe. Was he Son of god or God? Probably not. A Martyr? If he existed then definitely.
If there is a god then Deism, in my opinion, is a good way of thinking and would probably be closer to the truth, But thats my opinion.
Who knows? Thats the question

Most Atheists are more educated on Christianity than Christians are. They also usually look into other religions as well. I myself have researched a variety of religions and a few have actually kept my interest. Not to the point of believing in them, I just finding the whole concept interesting.
We dont need to bring facts forward. We dont need to prove that something doesnt exist, thats not the way things work. Its the religious that need to provide facts otherwise your religion is simply an old wives tale. I could tell people that a magical fairy lives in my garden and she told me that she created the universe. Do you believe me? Probably not because it sounds silly and I have zero evidence for it. But guess what? That has just as much credibility as Christianity does.

You fail to mention the most important thing of all about your religion. This applies to all religions, and this is, religions are made for ulterior motives. You also fail to understand why the NT was originally written in Greek. You also fail to notice that the so-called prophecies in the NT, which claim that those are done because a so-called prophet made the claim over 700 years prior, and you fail to understand or you just conveniently try to ignore that all of the prophecies in the NT were copied from the OT and none of them relate to Jesus. You also do not have a clue about who wrote the Jesus story nor why. You are just believing whatever a preacher or priest tells you. So who is asking questions without doing research or knowing anything about your own guide book.
Source(s): Very well educated Romans wrote your NT story for very specific ulterior motives and told the foolish that they would go to hell if they did not accept Jesus and, you fell for it hook, line and sinker. Next question. - SillypantsLv 77 years ago
Hello, I need you to study the Bhagavad Gita in original Hindi languages before you can ask me (or demand of me) questions about your one religious text. By selecting Christianity, you have rejected Hindusm. So you have to first become expertly educated on world religions (all of them) before you get to question or challenge or demand of me.
Thank you.
ps. You are as guilty of goal post moving as Muslims are when they claim you must read the Quran in Arabic to be able to criticize it. And in the next breath, they are happy to recommend an English version of the same rotten book to someone sincerely interested in converting to Islam. You're as intellectually dishonest as they are. Congratulations.

So, according to your 'Logic' no one but a scholar in ancient Greek can make sense of Plato or Archimedes and no one but someone versed in ancient Latin can make sense of Epicurus!
Load of rancid dingoes kidneys! The language argument is just another variant on "Courtier's Reply". Which roughly translates as "you haven't read enough of it, excuse me while I run away while you do your research!"

For goodness sake. You know good and well that no practicing Christian today bases their faith on the original Greek and Hebrew manuscripts, which are not original manuscripts either. The faith is certainly based upon mistranslation upon mistranslation upon mistranslation, all the way down the line. You are the ones who believe it, we just laugh and laugh and laugh.

Contrary to popular myths atheists have read the bible and it is BECAUSE they have read the bible they say it is bullshit. For instance, in the second book of the bible, exodus, the bible asks for MONEY which atheists picked up on and is one of the reasons why we claim that religion is an money drain.
