How do you file taxes if you're under 18 in Pennsylvania?

This is my first time with a job and having to file taxes, so I'm a little lost at where to start.

Update:

Do we have to file with our parents? Most of everything I do is independent from them.

Just make sure that you do talk to your parents about this matter at this time in your life.

Your own earned income that you did have to work for to earn would be reported by you on your own correctly and completely filled out 2013 1040 FIT return during the 2014 tax filing season for this purpose and time in your life.

And since you are a qualifying dependent of your parents on their own 2013 1040 FIT return during the 2014 tax filing season.

You will NOT be allowed to claim your own exemption on your own 2013 1040 FIT return.

You will find a box on the page 1 of your 1040 FIT return that you will have to check and that will indicate that you are a dependent of another taxpayer during the 2013 tax filing season and you will NOT be allowed to claim your own exemption and the line for the exemption will have to be a -0- ZERO at that time during the 2014 tax filing season.

You will still have your EARNED INCOME standard deduction amount of 6100 FREE of the FIT for the 2013 tax year.

Print a copy for your records and sign the other copy to be sent off to the correct IRS address for processing during the 2014 tax filing season.

Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful. 03/27/2014

PA has a flat 3.07% tax, with very few deductions and no "claiming" of dependents. A married couple may file jointly or separately, but a child never files wih their parents. You'll file your own return.

You either have your parents claim you as a dependent, or if you contribute more than 1/2 to your support, you can file as Single. If your parents claim you, you can still file to receive withheld taxes back, but you must file as a dependent claimed by someone else (your parents).
