Is it acceptable to allow a child (2.5 years old) to stand on the seat in a restaurant booth?

Went out with a friend who allowed her 2.5 year old to stand on the seat in a restaurant booth with shoes on instead of getting a booster seat/high chair. The hostess didn't look happy when the high chair was turned down which made me uncomfortable but had no effect on the parent.

Also, the standing on the seat didn't affect me otherwise. But I wouldn't probably liked to be the next person at the table & having to sit on a seat which had been walked on (this was a child but those shoes have been where adults shoes have been).

This was a nice restaurant (not a fast food joint).

Update:

If anyone wants to respond to the question asked, please direct your responses to the question or do not leave a response at all. The question did not ask for conclusions on whether the problem lies with me. If I was interested in such judgments, my question would have included that request.

Update 2:

Thanks Trebor, Photofix & TriHarder for responding to the actual questions & confirming what's OK.

When I was a small child my Parents would of not allowed me to do it, and it's not right for any parent to allow it. In this day and age, sadly most people have lost their morals and more importantly their common sense.

It distracts guests from having a nice, quiet atmosphere the restaurant would offer. Also, the next person to sit where the child had stood, might soil a very expensive piece of clothing, plus the child could easily fall and be hurt. I cannot understand why any parent or guardian of a child would allow such behavior.

No, it's not appropriate, and the hostess should have informed her of this. It's not even the issue of shoes on the seat (to be perfectly blunt, we shed fecal matter through our clothing, so us sitting there isn't exactly sanitary anyway), it's safety issue.

Of course not. All it takes is common sense to see it is not safe & the child could easily get hurt.

Hmm you seem to be having quite a bit of problems with friends and their children. Maybe the problem here is you, not them.

I agree. I hate that sort of thing.
