How did the wearing of powdered wigs ever get to be a fashion statment?

It looks dumb, is can't be fun to wear & doesn't powder get in your eyes?

perhaps it was to get rid of body odors?

    Louis XIII of FRance went prematurely bald,so wore a long flowing wig in public to cover up his baldness.

    France being the cultural centre of Europe at the time,wearing a wig for men soon became fashionable as a result.

    Head lice they did shave there heads. Only gentalmen could aford them, they attraced fleas and they could be shook out along with the fur collar they wore. To be rid of vermen. They also wore a flower in there lapel. To sniff when crossing a river or such. As they were open sewers.

    To add to the discomfort - often the powder used to keep your wig pearly white was ordinary flour...so your wig could end up hosting weevils.

    Torn jeans that cost $200 look dumb to many today, but that doesn't stop people from wearing them.

    Because of dirty verminous hair, head lice. the wearer could shave his head completely and then put a wig on.
