I have a 24 minute video, that I want to cut out all but the first six minutes for upload to YouTube. What is?

an easy, step by step way to do this? Please be very basic. I'd prefer not to have to buy some high powered piece of software just to do something this simple. Thanks.

It is not difficult. You can use Windows Movie Maker. Import your video in Windows Movie Maker

drag video on the Vide Timeline move cursor to part were you want to cut then click "M" to trim or look at the right under video player click on Trim. I am attaching screen shot but my system is in Japanese please follow red marked text. To trim you can also click on CLIP menu then choose Trim or cut.

When you will trim or cut a video there will be two part you can keep a right side part or left side part. Delete the one you do not need. Complete your editing save the project and then publish movie as a video.

If you do not got Windows Movie Maker you can use Freeware Anyvideo converter. It can trim, cut, edit even download videos. Also it is free you can use url link.
