Why am I wrong: Being gay is unnatural?

OK, need some update on my thinking here, but as far as I can see being homosexual is unnatural.

So far the best explanations I have had have been

1) "Well it's natural TO ME"

2) "There are instances in the animal kingdom of homosexual practices"

3) "Some studies show an imbalance in some X & Y chromosomes"

Have I missed any?

Hoping for some intelligent answers in within the usual immaturity that get thrown up here.

Thanks & cheers,

//BM

PS: Just anticipating the feedback / flame-war......

* Yes, what a bigot / homophobe etc etc etc

* Natural TO ME - wow, nice & subjective, and can be used by sociopaths, psychopaths etc

* Animals also exhibit cannibalism, mating-balls & abandoning their young

* I know they are still looking for the `gay-gene`

    Those are the main reasons.

Thousand upon thousands of species of animals exhibit homosexual behavior. Animals don't make their own choices ect, they just go off their instincts.

Yes there are animals that eat each other, rape ect, that is all part of nature too.

"Natural" does not define whether something is good or bad.

Computers, clothes, phones, air conditioning, religion ect, these are all things that we invented, things that do not occur naturally, and people do not considered these things bad.

homosexuality is natural, it occurs in nature, but that is not the only reason people accept homosexuality.

We accept it because it's a harmless innate part of who someone is. It doesn't matter if it's natural, or not. It doesn't matter if it's a defect or not. All that matters is it's innate and it harms no one. There is no rational reason not to accept it.

If it occurs in nature it is natural. That about states it. And yes there are instances of homosexual activities in the animal kingdom (of which we are a member) , how many times have you had a dog hump your leg.

The studies on rats show that homosexual behaviour becomes more common as the population density goes up which could mean it is a natural method of population control and much more normal than most would suspect.

I've found the best approach is to consider how one "becomes" gay. Many christians say gays choose to be gay. Assuming you believe it's a choice, (and if it isn't "natural" it must be), such a choice would be a very important one, a choice, in fact, that you aren't likely to forget.

So tell me this, was the sun out the day you made the choice to be straight? I mean, you have to remember it, it's important. I have an idea that you don't remember. It's the same thing for gay people. They don't remember either, because it wasn't a choice they made.

Everything in the modern society is unnatural. The bed you sleep in, contraception, using computers etc... Should we outlaw those things because they are unnatural?

Moreover, homosexual behaviour had been extensively documented in a variety of animal species. So homosexuality is natural, whether you like it or not.

I have yet to hear a good argument against homosexuality. Please feel free to provide one on why you think it is bad. I will be happy to rip it apart.

The fact that animals also do bad or gross things is irrelevant. The naturalness of homosexuality is a separate issue from the morality of homosexuality.

Homosexuality remains natural despite the fact that animals practice cannibalism and rape and cheat on their taxes or whatver.

Well your statement is correct except you're missing 2 words.

"Why am I wrong: Being gay is unnatural..... FOR ME"

Just because YOU think something is unnatural, doesn't make it true. That would be kind of egotistical, don't you think?

You can go on thinking whatever you want. It doesn't make you right.. or wrong.

You may also disagree with other people religions. That's fine, doesn't make you right - or wrong. It's just your opinion.

Well, I think homosexual sex is unnatural in the sense of reproduction of a species, but I think it is natural in expressing your love for someone who happens to be of the same sex. I believe a man can love another and the same for a woman. They can choose to spend their life together and express that love how they wish. However, if they want to reproduce they would have to take different steps. They could never do so in the traditional sense. I'm all for homosexuality. I believe the world's population is getting out of hand and measures need to be taken to ensure our survival on this rock. Homosexuals help keep the population from growing more than it is, and they also help in terms of adopting children who need good caring parents.

Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Just because you might think it's wrong doesn't necessarily mean it is and vice versa. Not sure if you are a religious man or not but Christians seem to have a big take on gay being wrong but Christians aren't supposed to judge either, which takes me back to everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If you see this happening and do not approve, please still be respectful to people and walk the other way.

The answer to your question is in your own question. Had you really thought it is "unatural" to be gay, you would have asked : "Am I right to think that....?". If you are stating in the question that you are wrong, it does indicate clearly that you do not believe it is "unatural". Besides, the word "unnatural" is a sort of contradiction of terms inasmuch as eveything that is in the real of nature is "natural" by definition.

I'm sorry, but if you have to be able to breed to be "normal," what do you have to say about people who are infertile?

You clowns who like to sound scientific need to remember something: EVOLUTION IS ABOUT SURVIVAL OF THE SPECIES, NOT INDIVIDUALS.

Example: In a wolf pack, only the alpha pair mates and breeds each spring. Why? Because it takes a whole pack to raise and feed a litter of pups. Extra, non-breeding adults are not just helpful, but NECESSARY, to care for the young -- thus ensuring survival of the pack.

Most pack members are related, so although their personal genome is not carried forward, their DNA is. Do you understand that?

Now, look at humans -- mammals whose young take many years to grow to where they can survive on their own.

In human clans, as in wolf packs, non-breeding pairs are necessary to get the young to that age. (Are you still with me?)

One of the differences between humans and wolves is that humans are fertile all the time - women have a monthly fertility cycle -- so we're interested in sex all the time. We don't have the 'alpha' business that wolves have, so humans are more likely to be having sex whatever the circumstances.

So -- Mama Nature, in her infinite wisdom, lets us find sexual partners who are not going to create more pregnancies than we are able to birth and raise. That's called same-sex attraction.

Our closest primate relatives, the bonobo, have bisexual relations with each other not just for sex, but for bonding and to lower stress and anxiety.

So for primates ... this is perfectly normal, has evolutionary benefits, and I'm sorry if you don't understand this, but it makes more sense than your rant.

And, Sunshine -- you can't say something is "unnatural" and then name natural behaviors that you do not approve of, or that the human race has chose to discard. Either something is natural or it's not. It's got evolutionary benefits or it doesn't. You can't have it both ways, so make up what you are pleased to call your mind.
