Heating question re: Horizontal discharge natural gas forced air furnace, [with no A/C and no heat pump]. Issue after changing thermostat?

The original thermostat had a fan-only setting and a heat setting. I purchased a heat-only Honeywell round thermostat. The wires from the furnace controls has 4 wires: red, white yellow and black. On the back of the thermostat I set the two micro switches according to the setting for gas heat furnace. The problem is since I replaced the thermostat the blower seems to put out less volume of air compared to before. I am using two wires, the red and the white. The yellow and black are not attached. The thermostat has 3 terminals labeled red white and yellow. How can I get the volume of hot air [fan speed] to be what it was with the old thermostat?

[Nothing on the furnace controls was changed - only change is the thermostat]

The heating speed should be no difference on changing the thermostat. The fan speed for heating is usually controlled by a control board or a fan control. Maybe your old stat energized the cooling speed in heat which would be the G terminal but it would have turned on the fan at the same time the burner came on. You can change the speed of the motor by changing the wiring at the control board. Look at the furnace wiring diagram and it will show this.

Make sure the fan heat relay terminal is connected to black as opposed to blue or yellow.
