Question about grade calculation?

So there's a total of 335 points you can earn in my history class. This essay I had is 70 points out of that. In an unfortunate bout of laziness and BAD formatting, the score was roughly 69 out of 100 on that essay.

I already calculated that the essay is worth 20 percent of my grade average. I am resubmitting my essay. Chances are I will score at least one or two letter grades higher now that proper formatting is in place.

My question is, if the essay counts for 20 percent of my grade, how much higher do I need to score on it in order to boost the average by 4 points and achieve myself the honor roll?

70 points out of 335 is actually equivalent to 19.72%, but let's round it to 20%.

The essay is worth 1/5 of your grade.

If you add 1% to the essay score, you'll add 1/5% to the final score.

If you add 5% to the essay score, you'll add 1% to the final score.

So you'll need to add 20% to the essay score, to increase your overall score by 4%.

The actual number is 20.284%, so let's just say you should aim for about 90% on the essay. Since you said the essay was worth 70 points, you need to score around 63 points or higher.

    Essay is worth 335 x 0.2 = 67 points

You got ~ 67 x 0.69 = 46 points for the not so great essay

To gain 4 more points overall, you will need to increase your essay score by 4/0.2 = 20 points for an essay total of 66 points. Expressed as a percentage, your essay will need to get 66/67 = 98.5%
