Puppy is no longer sleeping through the night?

This is fairly recent (last few nights).

We crate him in our room to sleep. He has never whined in his crate (not even the first night). Lately, he's waking up every 1.5-2 hours. He doesn't whine to be let out, but will paw at the door of the crate. He wakes up, drinks some water, and goes and finds his toys. Only once through the night he actually has to go potty. Up until this week he would sleep like a rock throughout the night.

I understand dogs don't sleep for 8 hours in a row like humans do, but I'm curious about this all-of-a-sudden change. Could teething, or a growth spurt be affecting his behaviour like that?

Well, the basic reason behind is the lack of recreation for your pup. This shouldn't be a problem. Well, this is how most of the pups behave when they get bored of sleeping or due to a change in their sleeping habits. But if you still are not certain then you shall consult a good vet. Don't just take it to any vet. make sure he is a trusted one.

Why does he have water and toys in his crate? I would take those out before you put him in for bed. When you put him in, say goodnight, and turn out the lights. That's what I did when my boys were pups, and they slept the whole night through.
