If I was to go into the jewelers to get my ring sized down, would it affect the engraving?

You do not say where the engraving is located on your ring so there is no way I can give a definitive answer to your question. Your best move would be to take it to a good independent jeweller's shop (not a chain group like Walmart or others), show them the ring and ask. The advice will be free.

that's hard to say. it really depends on where the engraving is located and how much the size difference is. go to a reputable jeweler, not a chain store like zales, and have them estimate it. also, shop around and see what other jewelers say about it.
