Backing Down in Basketball Using the shoulder?

What is the rule for this? Sometimes I have seen post players back down in the post and use the shoulder. Some coaches will say it's making good contact and using strength and praise, but some will say it's a foul and cheap shot. It's controversial. Does it involve the dribble? I need to know because when I get into the post sometimes and try to ward off bigs by backing down(I'm not exactly strong but I can surprise some bigs for my skinny size) some people will call it a foul.

No, the other answerer is wrong! If you're going to back a guy down A- you can't initiate the contact in an aggressive manner, B- you have to remain relatively upright before you go low to dig your shoulder into the defender. Good rule of thumb is to not go into a guy like a running back, and more often than not, you won't get called.

No, that would be a foul. Chest is fine, but no shoulder. If you wanna make like fades and and pullback jumpers, you can hold still, let the other player force their body on your front, and pullback a shot.
