advice on what to do in school now?

So i have been completely overwhelmed this semester with classes. I took way to big of a load and I have had way too much going on in my life. I am a chemistry major and my gpa is now going to drop to a 2.6 going into my junior year. I have to work everyday in order for me to even be able to afford to go to school. This semester it seemed like i had so much to do that i only had time to study enough to get a c on something before i had to study for something else. Now that my gpa is so low i feel like even getting a chemistry degree is useless because no graduate school will probably accept me and I will be stuck with just a bachelors in chemistry. I am taking a very light load for the next few semester to hopefully help my gpa. what should i do with my life?

  • Step back from this semester and breathe.

If your past performance is strong, and your future performance becomes strong again, this is something that you'll be able to address as an atypical semester that provided you with a learning experience (what you learned was how to balance multiple responsibilites, which they can see you did because your future grades were all strong).

Yes, this will have a negative effect on your overall GPA. Yes, it may affect the competitiveness of your application, and keep you from getting into some of the more competitive graduate programs. However, again, if your performance was strong, and becomes strong again, I think that you will be able to present an application that would get in into graduate programs. ESPECIALLY if you do some summer research projects! ;)

    Good luck!
