Circuit Breakers?

I have an Eaton 1" AFCI BRAF 15 Amp circuit breaker that trips sometimes with just turning on or off a lamp in the bedroom. It only started recently. An electrician once told me these breakers sometimes go bad. Is this true and if I were to replace it am I stuck with the same brand or will just about any 1" breaker of the same "type" work?

You first need to determine if the breaker is faulty or is working as intended. Since your picture shows you have two of them, swap them and if you now no longer have the original problem, then the breaker is bad. If you do still have the original problem, then the breaker is working as expected.

An AFCI breaker is protecting against arc faults. An arc can be caused by a loose connection. That lamp might be faulty.

You are stuck with buying a breaker that fits your enclosure. Breakers are labeled for the enclosure they fit in.

Companies that make breakers usually make different variations of the breaker to fit in different enclosures, so you should be able to find that type breaker from a different company.

You should replace the BRAF-type AFCI with the newer combination type.
