Is it true that the staghorn fern on a tree in my backyard is something special?
There is this bulbous, almost fungi-like growth about three feet in diameter growing on a tree in my back yard and my Mother told me that it should be prized, I am lucky and to feed it banana peels. Is that true, or is she pulling my leg?

Yes and no.
It is indeed an unusual plant to find in a garden. Anyway, it won't swallow any banan peels and neither should you :)
