Should I be concerned about these blood sugar levels?

My mom was recently diagnosed with diabetes and as a precaution the doctor told her to test my siblings and I's blood sugar. My brothers sugar was 128 and he is less than five foot and ate chips and salsa a little bit before with some chocolate milk, My sisters was 108 she is about 5' even and only drank chocolate milk. Mine was 95 I'm 5'3" and took mine just after eating a granola bar and yogurt. Should I be concerned with any of our blood sugar levels?

All of those blood sugars are good considering that you ate food within a short period of time prior to testing. A rule of thumb though is to test 2 hours after consuming food.

Chips and salsa a little bit before with some chocolate milk, granola and yogurt??? Does the term "Fasting Glucose Test" mean nothing to you people. All that can be said of your test results are that they are inconclusive. Hopefully, the Doctor included HbA1c tests on the blood draw, it's slower to detect a problem but at least it's not affected by a lack of compliance on your part.

if you're that worried about diabetes then I suggest you do as much research on it as you can. For you, and for your mom .A new diagnosis can freak you out, but after that- know that knowledge is power. Don't be satisfied with the doctor telling you will have to take meds you whole life. Look into food. Become a food detective so it will help. Stop eating granola bars (they have a lot of sugar in them).

The medley of correct, half correct and incorrect answers brings a sad smile to my face. Once again if you do not know the subject refrain from giving incorrect info. For the asker: if you want to be completely sure, your one-time POST PRANDIAL fasting glucose level is not a conclusive measure. You have to do a glucosamides test giving you an idea about your average glucose levels over the last 3 months.

Get an A1C test. That number will be an individual's average over the past several weeks and is a better indicator. Have no idea what the cost is but you can shop around once you get the referral from your doctor.

    No those are all good.

A persons height doesn't matter when it comes to diabetes.

    Your all look good.

I diabetics would be a lot higher.

I think it is unprofessional for the Dr to say to test you and your siblings, without telling you what it should be; If you are fasting, and 2 hours after you have eaten.

Your Mom has Type 2, Adult onset Diabetes.

A child who gets it would have Type 1.

    You are fine.
