Should I do a degree or certificate in TESOL?

I'm interested in one day teaching the English language as a career, but I don't want to be a general school teacher. I love people, cultures, and languages. I have helped friends with English and thought it would be a cool career. I also have experience learning languages myself so I know what it's like.

My question is for language teachers and people who have done related TESL or TEFL training; Is it easier to get particular jobs if you have a degree as opposed to a certificate.

Where i have been TEFL certificate was enough for teaching in primary school, about higher than that i dont know.

The more you have its obviously better. In nowadays world , they measure you based on your qualifications, so if you have completed a diplom over certificate its better.

It depends what kind of job you want.

Teaching overseas- at least a 4 year bachelors and a certificate in TESL/TEFL/ The best jobs and best countries require a master's degree.

Teaching adults in an intensive English program or adult ed in the U.S.- master's degree

ESL in k-12 schools- teacher licensure. Check your state Department of Ed website for the requirements in your state. It usually means a 4 year degree in education.

You usually need a degree. If you have to choose one choose the degree.
