Do you think handmade gifts like knitted items are a bad idea?

A few friends have been helping me lately since I lost my job. I would like to repay their kindness. I won't be returning to work anytime soon but I do knit. I have a bunch of yarn that I've been wanting to work through my stash. I was thinking of maybe making them thank you gifts.

We live in a cold weather state so its not like my gifts would go unused. I am just wondering if this would be a bad idea or not. I was thinking of making items like a hat and scarf set or an afgan. I feel like a Thank You card is not enough. Please tell me your thoughts.

Thank You.

Go for scarves, not hats. A lot of people, especially women, aren't crazy about knitted hats. I never wear them, but I love scarves, and I think most people can put them to good use.

Afghans are nice, too. I'd be overwhelmed if someone made me one, because they require a fair amount of work.

I crochet hats for my friends and they love them because they are all different. They say that it's terrific because people stop and ask them where they got the hats.

So -- get your needles out and make some great looking beanies for your friends.

That's a great idea! I knitted my girlfriend a scarf, and she absolutely loved it! It's a great way to show your thanks, and of course, a lot of time is put into knitting. Great idea. (:
