Is it safe to perform a self-removal of scrotal sebaceous cysts?

I have two sebaceous cysts on my scrotum. I was referred by my GP to my local hospital's urology department, but have been advised that the NHS does not deal with the removal of such cysts.

Both cysts are causing me a considerable amount of discomfort and pain. I need them gone.

If I just stick a needle into the cysts, will they drain easily enough to remove them?

Really? You're going to operate on your scrotum? Bad idea. Get a referral to a place that will do the job.

    Never, ever do this yourself.

I have a cyst on the outside of my right leg. Not close to anything. I thought about digging it out but that stuff hurts. A lot !

    Go to another Urology clinic

    Scrotal Cyst Self Removal

I had a small cyst on my face for years - it didn't get bigger over time, but a few times a year it would get infected, the area would get all red, and it'd feel hard for a week or two, then subside. It won't 'drain' like a pimple - the only way I got rid of it was to see a dermatologist, who made a small incision through the skin and removed it. Do NOT attempt this yourself, or you run the risk of scarring. The procedure was minor... took about 20 minutes... it doesn't bleed much, and you'll probably have a couple stiches there... takes about a week to heal up, and doesn't leave any real mark.

Cysts only grow and become painful when they are infected. Cutting them open has a very large risk of spreading the infection into the body. You might want to ask if removal is necessary as having them professionally drained might be enough.

Besides, that is where all of the pain nerves are. Cutting the outer skin open will hurt enough to make you incapable of completing the surgery.

Don't mess with it yourself. If you get an infection, you will be in big trouble.
