"Nervous" or even "scared" to grow up?
I'm 18 and graduating high school in a month. I'm planning on going to a college that's an hour away from home, but I'm kind of scared... Obviously, being 18, I have no experience with being on my own, and I love my family and my house and my town, and it's really depressing to know I'm going to be leaving them.
I guess I'm scared to grow up. Is there anything I can do to make myself "not scared"?
I know this is really stupid, but the fact that it's been bothering me for two weeks makes it a big problem...

What are you scared about? The distance? The college you will be attending is only one hour away from home -- close to your parents if you need them, yet far enough away to allow you independence. If you have a car, you can easily drive home on the weekends if you want to. When I graduated high school, EVERY college and every city with any job opportunities were at least one hour away from my home town -- most of them further away than that.
I think everyone feels apprehensive when they leave home and go out on their own, but remember that your parents and your schooling have been preparing you for this day all your life, and you will do just fine. You will probably make a few little mistakes at first, but that is to be expected. I found that my biggest hurdle was learning how to manage money and live within a budget.
This is the most exciting time of your life. Enjoy it!
