Psychology is completely a man-made invention. It is useful in many ways. But, because it is largely based on unproven theories and untestable ideas, it is recommended to use psychology in a way that it can bear evidence of its accuracy and results for those whom are suffering. As you can see, there are mental institutions full of people who are "mentally ill". There are plenty of "mentaly ill" people walking the streets who are placed on all sorts of medications, as well I say all sorts of medications because "mental illness" is often an effect of experience prolonged periods of actual physical pain on top of whatever issues are running through their mind. This means you may very will have people walking the streets on ten different medications who included the "mentally sane" as well as those who are completely out to lunch on all of their medications, and still others who have long departed reality in favor of ideas that the ordinary religious or non-religious person would not believe when there is evidence to the contrary.

It is important to love first and then treat those who are suffering. It's one thing to treat the suffering. But, if you do it without love, you are just going through the motions. Who is to say that love isn't simply what some of these people are missing in their lives? I don't refer to the temptations of the flesh. I am simply talking about the desire to feel valued and respected by your neighbor.
