What is your opinion about fat acceptance?

I am not talking about people who are 20 pounds over weight.

I am talking about people who are 100 plus pounds over weight.

Obese people.

Science has proven that obesity often time leads to

Heart attack

Stroke

Diabetes

Back problems

Knee problems

And others health concerns

Yet some people out there (mostly obese women) are trying to convince society that being obese is natural and normal.

I know that genetics do play are role in a persons weight but nobody's genetics would cause a person to become 200 pounds over weight.

    I despise it.

And to be honest, I don't even think it's OK to feel that people who are 20 lbs or even 10 lbs overweight is the norm. And people do think that. I did a survey on GS a couple of weeks ago of a woman about 15 lbs overweight and only 3 out of at least 20 people felt she should lose weight. Most said she was perfect, sexy and even praised her for confidently carrying her weight.

I don't want to be harsh, but I was 10 lbs overweight all of last year (I count anyone with any amount of stomach fat as overweight) and I could feel the difference in the quality of my life. I was always tired, my immune system was down, I was prone to sweating and breakouts. It makes me upset to think that this the standard of "life quality" that a majority of people feel is normal, OK or healthy.

I'm not saying that we should trash overweight people or shame them, but do need to see that obesity is a problem. We don't make fun of smokers but we do recognise it as a health issue. Why is binge eating any different?

Well, it's not natural or normal, for most people, but I accept it, I don't mind if people are fat or do unhealthy things. I hope that they are healthier than I am... And I'm underweight and sick a lot, in fact, I'm sick now for some reason... And I am not doing anything too unhealthy, I just had bad genes.

It's just like any other unhealthy behavior, or state of being, I think people should choose any journey they like, and I also just don't know what place that person is in at that point, I'd rather be accepting and understanding, I don't have it in me to shame people for that sort of thing, it's hypocritical... I mean, I do some unhealthy things too, like chew gum that I know could give me brain cancer, and eat refined sugar every day, which could give me any sort of cancer, diabetes, and is just horrible for my body.

And if you're super healthy, good for you, being all neurotic, but it's not what I want right now. Plus, it doesn't matter how healthy you are if you get hit by a bus.

It's better to feel better, if there is one thing I've learned from being ill all the time, it's that health is flighty and sacred.... Part of it is luck, part of it is genetics, part of it is what you can control. The lack of control we have over our bodies is really scary, I'd encourage people to be healthful in their decisions, but it's not up to me, and the result of their healthfulness is impossible to determine.

Listen, I don't go up and mock random fat people, but if one of my friends is in danger of having a heart attack at 45, I'm not gonna just sit there and let it happen.

People have a right to trash their bodies as they see fit, but if they expect others to pay higher health insurance premiums to cover their obesity-related complications, *then* we have a problem.

Are people seriously saying that smokers, binge drinkers and drug users aren't shamed?

I think fat acceptance is not about pretending it's OK to be fat. It's about letting people know that they shouldn't be fat-shaming people.

Pretty much everyone has bad habits that will damage their health. And yet only fat-shaming is acceptable. Why not shame people who get drunk? It will damage your health over time. How about smokers? Do we routinely pass rude comments about smokers? People who don't eat enough? People who sleep around without protection and get diseases?

How about drug users? I don't see people harassing kids using ecstasy at parties.

Why is overeating everyone else's business but there is little shaming of the harmful habits of everyone else? I think THAT is the point the fat acceptance movement is trying to make.

Its rather silly. Giving these people a fake sense of self-esteem - they can say they are beautiful as much as they like, others can tell them it too - but one look in the mirror - or one visit to the doctor will quickly blow all that false happy joy joy away.

I think these movements are dishonest, creepy and cruel.

Your gonna say to people - stay fat and lazy - and we will force everyone not to mention it to your face and get everyone to pretend we dont notice you taking up two seats on public transport.

How about we start a reality acceptance movement ?

as long as I don't have to live with one...

I don't want to live in a freezing cold 15 degrees house.

and I gotta put on gloves, sweater, and coat inside while it is summer outside.

I don't solicit obesity, I also don't support fat shaming

Obesity should not be embraced or glamorized

Neither should it be shamed and mocked and ridiculed as its a struggle for some people.

Its like drugs people shouldn't glamorize an addict but they shouldn't shame them

Its a psychological problem that needs addressing

It really annoys me. After being around a few overweight people and seeing them eat, I notice that it is often a diet issue.

Put them on a treadmill at the Grand Canyon. They'll soon start running.
