Pain in stomach?

I've had this awful pain in my upper stomach on and off for quite some time now. It's very uncomfortable to lay on and if I move my stomach around it's also very uncomfortable. It's been this way for a good few months and I really do not know what it is. It comes and goes throughout the week although it's always uncomfortable to lay on. If I press down on the area even lightly it's very painful. Any ideas as to what this may be?

    Hey India.

Which side of the pain on?

Its hard to pin point what it could be, most organs are on the right side of our body, so if the pain is stemming from the right it could be an idea to call your doctor and make an appointment.

Does the pain trigger sfter you eat food? Does your tummy feel swollen and uncomfortable? If the pain travels to your upper stomach, back, middle, lower back then it could be a number of things:

Trapped wind, if you've swolled some air whilst eating to fast, you can relieve this pain by getting on your hands and knees and trying to pass gas, avoid any fizzy drinks or heavy meals, put a hot water bottle on your stomach or try going to the toilet. Or you could buy some windsetlers from the shop to break down the gas bubbles in your stomach and this will relieve the pain.

Gallstones, this is quite a common condition which is balls of cholesterol built up in your gallbladder which is underneath your liver, and it causes pain when one of the gallstones get stuck in the bile duct, without treatment gallstones can get worse, but some people experience the pain only once and it resolves itself. Gallstones are caused by bad diet and lack of exercise and can be treated by eating heathily and exercising regularly. If the pain persists, keep an eye out for darker urine, yellow eyes and skin, nausea and feeling weak, if you recognise any of thede symptoms contact your doctor straight away.

There is a list of things it could be but with little information its hard to tell, I would suggest contacting yout doctor if the pain persists or you still feel differently after a few days. In the meantime, try to relax, have a hot bath, drink plenty of fluids and light foods, and maybe take some painkillers to ease the pain.

I hope you feel better soon.
