Is it possible to be an independent?

I am always trying to be an independent when it comes to politics. I want to see Republicans and Democrats work together to solve our countries problems but I always end up leaning to the left and having a liberal bias on issues. George W. Bush was too conservative and Barack Obama is too liberal. I really miss the days when Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich worked together and we had a great era of peace and prosperity in America. Is it possible to be a straight independent? Please let me know.

I am an Independent. I don't always like what the Dems are doing and I almost never like what the Republicans are doing. I'd rather do my own research and make up my own mind than have some political party try to dictate what my beliefs are or should be.

There is nothing wrong with eschewing party affiliation. After all, the GOP and Democratic party essentially switched sides in the early-mid 20th century. Vote for what you think is best, campaign for laws and candidates, not parties.

Yes, independent means you don't belong to any party. Has nothing to do with your beliefs.

Being independent doesnt mean you never agree with others. It means their party affiliation is not the reason you agree or disagree. You agree on the basis of the issue

Yes. But when primaries come around, you may feel left out.

Independents have no voting power. Better to choose a party and try to influence it.
