I have to replace a 25 year old electric range that is hardwired with a new 40 amp 240 volt range that uses a modern 3-prong plug.?

I don't think the folks who deliver the new range will do this work as a routine installation. This leads to a bunch of questions:

Will I have to hire a licensed electrician to disconnect the old range and install a range receptacle for the new plug? About how many hours will this work require? How much will the parts cost for this work? (I will already have a 6 foot cord for the new range.) Can you give me an estimate of how much $$$ an electrician will charge for this work?

The bottom line is my income is low & I don't want to get ripped off by an electrician who will overcharge me for parts & labor.

I know these are a load of questions & you cannot give me exact answers for many of them. But any suggestions will help.

Thanks a lot for your advice!! I really appreciate it.

Go to Lowes, HD and talk to the guys in electrical. They will sell you a socket you can connect to wire in wall and plug in new range. I did it for a dryer and a range and it wasn't any big deal. Just take your time and make sure connections solid and please god turn off the power first. I have a friend who thinks he's immortal and melts screwdrivers because he won't turn off power,
