Backstabbing/lying crush OR dramatic bff?

My bff told me she was sure that she heard a conversation where my crush (also my friend) said I was "clingy" and had "overreacted" about something- behind my back. My friend texted me as it was happening "I hate your 'crush' SO much right now!" and then called me for an hour to tell me about it.

When I talked to my crush said he "never said those things" and that I "hadn't overreacted at all", and he explained why she might have misunderstood it. But my bff said she was 100% sure "clingy" and "overreacted" were about me, and those words are kind of hurtful.

I trust my bff a lot, but one time she thought a guy was cheating on her and she "absolutely hated" him, but when I talked to him, and he said he didn't and explained how it was a misunderstanding.
