Is this true about creationists?

Imagine a man punching a 10,000-foot-thick brick wall in an attempt to prove that his fists are stronger than the wall is. His knuckles are bleeding in his futile effort to crack this impenetrable wall. He mistakenly believes that he can crack the wall, and that doing so will prove that his fist is stronger than the entire wall.

Of course, even if the wall DID crack, all it would prove is that there was a weak spot in the wall. The rest of the wall would still remain, and he would be no closer to proving that his fists are stronger than the wall.

Is that a fair comparison to the plight of the creationist?

    Spot on. Very good analogy.

If the brick wall was built on an extremely weak foundation, it could be toppled with a gentle push. For example, if it were built on the proposition that the mass of the world spontaneously came from nothing without a catalyst to initiate it. Or if it were built on the proposition that life spontaneously erupted from non-life without a catalyst. These are absurd propositions.

Not really - a more accurate analogy would be a pin and a bag of balloons. Each time the creationist uses his pin to pop a ballon masquarding as evidence the materialists put another balloon into the bag.

    It's a decent analogy.

With many "creationists" though (specifically the YEC types), they don't bang their fists against the wall of facts (of evolution, etc.) -- they claim the wall doesn't even exist.

  • No, it's more like the wall is attacking him for his beliefs. I'm not a creationist myself, but I see no problem with letting people believe that if they wish. It does no one any harm.

Almost. If he used his head, he could break through the wall in no time flat.

If you know of someone who can chip a 10,000Foot or crack it.

So what you're trying to say is that, someone is dumb if they believe in god?

Only if his fist is imaginary

Actually that analogy is not bad.
