Will a broken green stem grow back if it is snapped?

I have a small Maple Tree and it had new growth it was growing pretty fast and I guess the wind snapped a new separated stem that was growing upwards. It's not the main stem it is like a branch stem if you will. I was wondering do I need to cut it off now or will it eventually shoot up new growth from that area? Can anyone who is a botanist help me out?

I'm not a botanist, but I spend my college years working in a nursery. Cut off the broken shoot. Dip it in "rooting hormone" (available at any nursery). Place the cutting in a 1/2 gallon milk carton that has sand in it (not black dirt). Water it sparingly. In about 3 weeks, you should see signs of new root growth. Wait until about week 6, then cut the bottom out of the milk carton and plant the rooted cutting into a hole that is at least twice the diameter of the milk carton. You can grow a new tree from the broken branch.
