Why are people against the use of drones?

I mean, they have so many potential uses. They can deliver goods, monitor forest fires, aid in search and rescue, help with border patrol, can go into combat while the US Soldier piloting it stays safe, and so much more.

Update:

So one tiny thing outweighs all the good uses?

I agree with Mike. People generally dislike change, but drones are an important step in human history as we will have many positive uses for them and eventually enable self-driving cars and planes.

I'm not against the use of UAVs, just against the misuse of them. Using them to spy on us would count as misuse. Extended SAR missions where it would be risky for manned aircraft is an example of proper use.

Combined with the unprecedented passages of Patriot Act and NDAA, I recommend that you consider the inimical repercussions of these government empowering moves against our Freedoms. So, while the conveniences offered by drones seems fun to you, no government can be fully trusted with such a tool that allows them to prowl and kill with impunity!

There are times when the harm is greater than the good. And such is the case with the drones - especially since being used amid great controversy in other Countries!

When you understand why "Freedom is not free, and must be vigilantly protected by the people," your appreciation for the reasons the Founding Fathers formed the Constitution will be enhanced.

I wish they used a few drones with chain guns and a few missles when those Al Quada were out bragging and hugging

each other . Take the whole lot out

They can spy on you illegally . They can fall from the sky and kill you . They can crash into power lines . buildings etc. If they used them to deliver packages there would be a lot of crime going on when people watched them fly in and ran over and took the package out of the front lawn . That one is a stupid idea that will never happen . Living with thousands of drones flying around town would be a bad thing .

But sure they have their good uses also .

Just like any new surveillance technology people are afraid of the possible abuses.

Currently there are few laws governing the use of this technology.

We need laws across the country that require a warrant to use a drone for surveillance just like we do for wire taping.

The mind of the pilot is damaged in the process of killing civilians.

Plus we don't want constant surveillance from these things. If they can monitor forest fires, neutralize the border, and have facial recognition qualities courtesy of Facebook, then I don't see how it isn't a potentially negative device.

I don't think they're any worse than police helicopters. In fact, I view them as modern day police helicopters.
