Are Puerto Ricans different ethnicity from Mexicans?
I mean ethnicity as a culture, not as a race. I think all Latinos share common elements among them and with Spanish, as language, religion, some cultural roots,...although there are differences too, because they come from different countries and every country has its own culture.
So Latino is an ethnicity itself, but inside this ethnicity, there are different ethnicities too.
I want to make clear that my question is not about race, but cultural ethnicity.
@Scrabble: - Hispanic is an ethnicity, with important elements in common as language, religion and cultural roots, then ethnicity does not mean race, as there are blacks, whites, mestizos,...sharing this ethnicity.
You are not interested in knowing them, but people who do, find differences among Hispanics that make different ethnic groups inside the big group of Hispanics, but the best way to make them feel insecure is to deny it and force them to be all the time explaining the differences.
Update 3: @Scrabble: - Regarding to Asians, Japanese and Chinese are different ethnicities, but when you classify: Asian, Blacks, Whites - they are races not ethnicities, so the classification: Asian, Whites, Blacks, Hispanics is not that correct, and that's why many Hispanics feel insecure about it.

Not ethnicity, but culture. Although they might both speak Spanish, they have different history, music, food, ways of talking etc.
I'm not sure about Puerto Rico(it's a small island), but even in Mexico there are differences in culture, like in the US. A big country can't just have one same culture. Northern Mexico is more like Southern USA. Cowboy culture, big trucks, similar dancing, food(like beans or burgers) and whatnot. South-eastern Mexico is very different from other parts. It's more indigenous influenced and different climate as well. Different types of foods as well. Like Spain, that also has different cultures and foods in different regions.
they might both be Latinos, but trust me, the culture is way different. Caribbean Latino countries are also influenced a lot by Africans. I once had Puerto Rican food, and some names sounded African.
but yes you're right, they all speak Spanish and most are Catholic.

Very different. Im puerto rican. They are both hispanics but its way off difference, even the dilect in language its different. Everything. We puerto ricans are more closest to food and culture with dominicans and cubans. Mexicans are more closest to salvadorians or central american countries.
Oh and dont listen to zapato, he thinks he is smart but its obvious by his stupid answers he is ignorant and mexican hater. Not all mexicans are like him, he is just an embarrassment to mexico. Thats what you call a burnt tortilla, no good and thrown away.

Yes Mexican culture is completely different from Puertorican culture. is like comparing a Jamaican or a Haitian with an African- American they might share similar ancestors but completely different culture. Also another example is comparing an American to a British person they both speak English but are completely different cultures.
Puertoricans and Mexicans both speak Spanish but are two completely different accents and dialects.
Source(s): Latino is not an ethnicity. Hispanic is an ethnicity. There are different nationalities within that ethnicity. - 7 years ago
Yes, on Average Puerto Ricans have a lot more Spanish blood than Mexicans. Many Mexicans do not even have Spanish blood. Also Puerto Ricans has more of a Black influence.

duh, of course. Mexican culture is also different form Colombian, Salvadorian, Cuban, Ecuadorian, Argentines, etc. Kinda random how you ask about Puerto Rico.
And no, "Esther" not all latinos share the same language bc last time I checked, Brazilians and Haitians are technically latinos too and they don't speak Spanish.
@Angela, no hispanic isn't an "ethnicity" its a made up term by the U.S government that was originally meant for mestizos.

Yes they are of the same culture, hispanic culture or ethnicity. Ethnicity means a group of people with common culture, belief, and language. So of course they are connected and both have a strong Spanish influence. Too much in common, not enough of a difference.*****hispanics are the only ones who dont want to be lumped together. Whites get lumped, its not one huge culture but they dont care. Same with blacks and Asians. But all are familiar. Hispanics are, overly paranoid and insecure,so what if youre all lumped together, no one is taking anything from you.
