How to care for euphorbia milii (crown of thorns)?

I was at a nursery today and in the "nobody wants these plants" section there was the odd spiky one with red flowers which I learned now is a crown of thorns. It had no tag or anything so I know nothing about it.

How do I care for it? Is it a cactus (so water infrequently)?

No it's not a cactus, it is in the same family as the poinsettias that you get at Xmas.

They are tropical spurges growing to about 2 metres and need tropical care.

They are succulents, so need dry conditions and can tolerate drought.
