Why do people dislike Islam?

I mean, I always here all this hate about how "muslims are evil" and other stuff like that. But nobody ever gives a reason for their hatred. What do you think?

I think most of the terrorism committed in the name of Islam is based on verses taken from the hadith, not the Koran. It's similar to the Jewish Talmud, which is rabbinical decisions made long after the original religion was created. In addition, people actually connect Islam with the terrorism, when it is actually based on desperation, anger, and frustration and if there were no Islam, there would still be terrorism. They would just use a different excuse.

I'm sure they would be quite offended if we decided to condemn Christianity for the decisions of people like Erich Rudolph and Scott Roeder.

It's not Islam, It is not Muslims are evil. It is the Muslims extremist that are killing and mutilating people are evil and we must find a way to stop them. It is not by any starch of the imagination, all. Just a handful that for some reason, many won't even admit exist.

Not all muslims are evil, some are pretty nice. The problem is that what we hear and see on TV are those that are flying planes into buildings, beheading folks, kidnapping female students, stoning people for being gay, etc. Maybe most muslims agree with those behaviors and actions, I don't know, but at least they are quiet about it-at least here in the states.

This is a straw man argument on your part. Although there may be a few that actually hate Islam, the rest don't hate it (although there may be misunderstanding leading to distrust in come cases), they hate militant radical Fundamentalist Islam. THIS is where Islamic terrorism comes from.

I don't think any one religion has a monopoly on evil; most people of any faith just want to get on with things and be left alone. But fundamentalism is pretty much always evil, and it seems sometimes that Islam has a higher than average proportion of fundamentalists at times. So people might be looking at that and forming an erroneous opinion of all Muslims - in the same way as someone looking at just the Westboro Baptist Church might decide all Christians are absolutely hateful scumbuckets.

That and some people are still bitter about 9/11 - there, again, casued by fundamentalism more than Islam itself.

Muslims are not evil, but radicalized religions are. When someone believes the only way to achieve paradise is to kill those who don't support your beliefs, then I think that's where most people draw the line.

Islam based solely on the Quran is not bad religion (except the "kill all the infidels" part).

Unfortunately, too many other rules have been added to it based on other works (Sharia law, etc.), to work if you want to live in a post 7th Century society.

Because it is another Abrahamic religion that causes hatred and intolerance and before you know it, there will be Muslims running jets into buildings and holding up signs that say "GOD HATES FAGS".

If people can keep their religion about worshiping their God, I have no problem with it.

People I've heard say they don't like Islam have plenty of reasons .. they're trying to kill all Christians, all westerners, etc. SOME factions 'want' to do those things, but not ALL.

I think if one looks at the regional conflicts with which Islam involves itself with globally the answer to most people is self evident. lol
