Why do all group e-mails now come from sender groupname@yahoogroups.com?
The From: field was previously populated with the sender's Yahoo! ID or display name, but now most just come from the name of the group @yahoogroups.com.
The actual format is:
From: "<YahooID> <real e-mail address> [groupname]" <groupname@yahoogroups.com>
It used to be:
From: <display name> <real e-mail address>
I use Thunderbird to read Group e-mails and unless the author signs their message, I've no idea who has written them as they all show groupname@yahoogroups.com as the sender.
Please change this back.
Regards,
Martin.

I found a fix for Thunderbird. Go to your address book and search for the entry for your groupname@yahoogroups.com. Double click to edit the entry. Untick "Always prefer display name over message header". Click okay and you should now see the full From field with everyone's email address in.
An alternative, that makes this change for all email addresses rather than just one group, is Tools - Options - Advanced - Reading & Display then untick "Show only display name for people in my address book".

The problem is that some popular email UIs only display the email address of the sender, most notably the iPhone mail program. So now all emails sent to yahoo groups show up on the iPhone as the email address so it's impossible to know who sent the message. That's obviously a huge problem. If this change isn't altered or rolled back, we'll have no choice to but to explore alternatives to yahoo groups. At the very least insert "Send by original_email@domain.com" at the top of each email you send. And FWIW clicking the name of the group in the From field only expands it to read the full email address (group@yahoogroups.com).

Problem is that now I cannot see who sent the email via Yahoo Groups. The email (when viewed on an iPhone) simply says from [group name] ... with NO indication of sender's name. No, it's not a Group setting (as I'm an administrator). The only way to see who sent the message is to hit "reply", then the sender's name is visible in the "From" line.

Log into your group home page on Yahoogroups. Click on My Account at the top and enter your password on the next screen. Now click on Edit Create Profiles on the right, then on Edit and Edit Profile Information. Enter YOUR FIRST NAME ONLY in the box that says Real Name. Save the change. You can do the same thing in your own email program if you want to send messages to groups when you're not posting from the web. (Instructions vary according to your mail program.) Enjoy! :-)

Hi Martin,
This is a change the Group's engineers just made to fix the DMARC problem being reported. Here's our blog post about it:

The problem is that Outlook, and webmail interfaces, don't allow replying to the actual sender. Any replies go back to the group.
This is causing huge problems for Freecycle and similar groups.
Please fix this!!!

FWIW... you can log into the group from groups.yahoo.com and see who actually sent it. Definitely not user friendly, Yahoo needs to address this. We must be able to see who sent the message!

Go to Tools/options/Advanced/display and uncheck "show only display name for people in my address book".

For iPhone users, please delete the group email address from your contacts. That will do the trick :)
