Why are most (fictional) Female detectives b!tches?

Off the top of my head...

Kate from Castle

Bones

That girl from CSI Miami

Im just wondering because, I'm not saying these women are bad characters, it's just, their not that likable. And it's weird because one of the most lovable detectives, Sherlock, from BBC Sherlock, is more anti-social, grumpy, rude, and condescending then any of the women I just listed, but yet he's still so likable

Is it becaue he's a man? Or is the writting and directing for Sherlock better then American television?

And extra question: why do you think women are called b!tches just for being a little bossy and mean? What do you think qualifies as a "true *****"?

Thanks : )

I don't see them as being any meaner than the male cops. I just don't think you like women in authority.

Being strong and standing up to people isn't being like a man its being like a well adjusted human

I like The women from castle, the women from bones, and I don't know who you mean by "That" girl from CSI, there are about 4 or 5 women on CSI.

I don't think that is true. What about Jessica Fletcher in Murder She Wrote? She might not have officially been a detective but she did solve a lot of crimes like one and my Mum and I loved that show.

I also liked the Jane Doe TV movies with Lea Thompson (from Caroline In the City) and I thought Veronica Mars was a likable character too but the movie was a letdown.

They make every detective seem like mean people. Look at Elliot Stabler.

Maybe you are not used to seeing women in authority. I think most of us can accept that we expect women not to be so direct as men - but how do you get the work done, if you have to kowtow to society's expectations of how a woman should behave?

    You had it

The writing is better for Sherlock

Uk sold it to 19 countries

    It's a worldwide phenomenon

And you really can't say that about the crap you listed with female detectives

For realistic female detective watch Nordic noir the bridge or any of the off spins

She's autistic like me and the most amazing writing for a female detective I've ever seen

It's as good as Sherlock but she's not as sexy to me :)

I think it is a fairly modern trend. Some, possibly most, writers assume that a ***** is how a strong female character should be portrayed. George R.R.Martin, i.e. Game of Thrones, is a notable exception to the rule. While his stories does have some evil women in them, they aren't one dimensional characters.
