Rifle would be the better choice, since it uses cheap rounds, is easy to use, and generally strikes harder than a bow does, if you're a beginning shooter.
However they require cleaning, and (up here) a licence to buy and use.
The bow, while it's quiet, is generally better for shorter ranges and by experienced and strong hunters who know where to hit the target.

Although I have both I hunt almost exclusively with my bow. Here is why I live in a major urban area and all of our available hunting area's are literally surrounded by developement. A bow is a silent weapon and does not draw attention. Why is that a concern? well with being in a liberal minded state we are blessed with anti-hunting terrorists as well, I have had my car vandalized, been chased and harassed, and threatend with violence. So I use a take down bow I put in my back pack and carry that and a camop jump suit in it. I dress like any other hiker entering the wilderness and no one knows what I am up to. Secondly I don't have to go far I can hunt deer literally from my back yard if need be and again being silent even the niegbors never know.

Rifles....unless you use the "sideway's gansta bow shooting method"...which looks wayyyyy cool.
Source(s): rifles are more versatile...
