which used car is better?

My son is shopping for a used car in the $2000 range, and has narrowed it down to two he is currently interested in: A 2000 Subaru Legacy with a manual transmission and 180k miles. The advantages are relatively good reliability, decent mileage, AWD. The other is a 2004 Cadillac Seville with 113k miles. The advantages are it's newer with fewer miles and has more power and comfort. My son will be driving around 100 miles a week typically. What is your take on these two vehicles?

STAY AWAY from cadillacs with northstar. they are extremely high maintenance cars. and parts are high the head gasket usually fails around that time. its gonna cost as much as the car is worth to replace when the head gasket goes. get him a lincoln town car instead, i have one and LOVE IT. he will not be sorry, the ride is extremely comfortable, gas mileage is in the same neighborhood. basically the same car but without the garbage northstar. i had a 98 deville and i hated it. stick to the subaru, or a lincoln town car.

2004 Sevilles came with a Northstar V8, one of the worst engines Cadillac ever made. They were notoriously unreliable, and Cadillac was glad to move on to the newer engines.

Avoid that Caddy like the plague.

Go with the subaru. Chances are that any 2000 dollar car will have its problems that will need to get fixed and anything that needs fixing on a caddilac is ridiculously expensive

Subaru. they are more that a little reliable. the engines are work horses that want to go for a million miles. things may go wrong but not much.

I would go with the Subaru. My guess is that it would be better on gas.
